Line

June 17th, 2009

If you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself… these are the answers to the Liquid Generation 100 Movie Quotes in 200 Seconds video, about which I posted yesterday.

It’s possible that some of these are wrong. There doesn’t seem to be the definitive list anywhere so I googled the ones I didn’t know.

Here goes:

1 – Good Morning, Vietnam

2 – The Waterboy (miss… never seen it and that’s a pretty stupid movie to include… yeah, OK, so I’m sore)

3 – Ghostbusters

4 – Animal House

5 – Caddyshack

6 – Tommy Boy (best line in the movie)

7 – Home Alone

8 – A Christmas Story (miss – this was a pretty stupid miss… never seen the whole thing straight thru so I guessed The Great Outdoors… hey, it looks/sounds like John Candy)

9 – Airplane!

19 – Austin Powers

20 – The Big Lebowski

21 – Back to the Future

22 – 16 Candles (? – I know that’s Anthony Michael Hall…)

23 – Young Frankenstein (miss – I’ve never seen it so I guessed The History of the World, Part I)

24 – Dazed and Confused (miss – I’m pissed at myself for this one… never seen it but should’ve known it… guessed Fast Times at Ridgemont High)

25 – Jurassic Park

26 – Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back

27 – Close Encounters of the Third Kind (? – never seen it but hard to look up “groovy”)

28 – Total Recall

29 – The Lord of the Rings (I’ll give myself a whole point for this altho it might be The Two Towers and not The Return of the King)

30 – 2001: A Space Odyssey

31 – The Wizard of Oz

32 – The Planet of the Apes

33 – Star Wars (I believe it’s the original)

35 – E.T.

36 – The Blair Witch Project

37 – Poltergeist

40 – Psycho

41 – Frankenstein

42 – The Sixth Sense

43 – Jaws

44 – The Silence of the Lambs

45 – The Shining (? – “redrum” is definitely from that but two quotes from the same film?)

49 – Casablanca

50 – The Graduate

51 – Dirty Dancing

52 – Titanic

53 – Jerry Maguire

69 – Field of Dreams

70 – Dead Poets Society

71 – Citizen Kane

72 – Apocalypse Now

73 – Forrest Gump

74 – Cool Hand Luke (miss – guessed Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid… bad miss, tho I’ve never seen either)

78 – Braveheart

79 – Scent of a Woman

80 – American Beauty

81 – The Usual Suspects

82 – Fight Club

98 – James Bond: Dr. No (? – I think)

99 – Batman

100 – Rocky

So, this means that my score is 84 and holding. If anyone knows the 5 question marks, that’d be great.

I missed 11 for sure. I’d be pretty happy w/ 89% and in fact am pretty thrilled with 84%.

The other night we played this I’ve Never game in which you state a movie you haven’t seen and if everyone else HAS seen it, you get a point. I of course lost huge, meaning I’ve seen a lot, but the ones I haven’t seen that surprised people are:

Top Gun

Lethal Weapon (any of ‘em)

Scarface

Basic Instinct

ConAir

Air Force One

Million Dollar Baby

The ones I was surprised they didn’t have on here:

The Shawshank Redemption

Platoon

National Lampoon’s Vacation

Fletch

The Bridge on The River Kwai

Ben-Hur

The Ten Commandments

Looking at AFI’s 100 Movie Quotes… here are my guesses… granted, there is some overlap but not a whole lot, actually:

97 – Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner? (miss… Yankee Doodle Dandy… never seen it)

98 – Dirty Dancing

99 – The Wizard of Oz

100 – Titanic

So, out of those:

I missed 32. Wow, that’s a lot. I got a 68%. Definitely harder when it’s just the quote but the AFI list also skewed much older. Good list, tho… prolly more reflective of greatest movies in history while the Liquid Generation one was constructed by my generation.

So, nothing from The Shawshank Redemption is kind of unforgivable. Ha.

    1. Scarface? Top Gun? Geez Louise, dude.
    2. you write a 10,000 word blog post on movie quotes, and not once mention who sent you the link in the first place? Wow, how about a little gratitude!
    3. Most of those old movies suck anyway. The WORST movie of all-time? “The Graduate”. That movie made me hate Simon & Garfunkel.
    4. You want to see a really funny video? Check it out. This asshat has more influence on the economy than anyone else. Hardy, har, har!

Very Impressive. I didn’t do it, but I would have been about 50.

84 is The Warriors. Haven’t seen it, but can get it from watching Craig Mack and D12 music videos.

I once had a friend tell me, “it bothers me that everything you know, you learned from cartoons or rap music.” You can start saying that, too.

Well sadly I recognized all of the quotes.

22 is from Weird Science (later on he goes Chicks cannot hold they smoke – that’s what it is)

27 – Groovy is from Army of Darkness (Starring the Chin himself Bruce Campbell.

45 is definitely from the Shining.

58 – End of the the line is put your lips together and blow.

    84 is from The Warriors

91 – Bloodsport is only the greatest Martial Arts film ever, well except maybe for Enter the Dragon

I actaully own over 80 of these.

derrick – there’s nothing wrong with that.

“there’s nothing wrong with that name.”

“there WAS nothing wrong with it… until I was about 12 years old and that no-talent ass clown became famous and started winning grammys.”

dude! the graduate was an awesome movie! great bildungsroman movie, coming of age, the empty vessel of spirituality in the US growing into adulthood, the concept of doing everything you’ve been told and finding an emptiness in it all, having overachieving and lack of fun weigh on you with pressure, and a hot wife. Yep, wedding crashers… “it’s like fishing with dynamite it’s not even fair!” see ya!

wow, ching – you need to review movies for a living… i think i enjoyed your review more than the movie.
